London, Dec 11 – A popular agony aunt at a South Asian radio station in Scotland has been found brutally murdered in her flat, police said.

The body of 54-year-old Awaz FM presenter Nasim Jamil, renowned for reuniting broken families on air, was discovered by family members at her flat in Glasgow Wednesday night.

Police have launched forensic and door-to-door inquiries and a post-mortem examination has taken place. CCTV footage from the area is also being studied, a police spokesman said.

‘This was a particularly brutal murder and the person or persons responsible must be caught,’ Detective Chief Inspector Louise Raphael said.

Jamil, who was widowed and lived with her daughter, was said to have been a popular member of the South Asian community in Scotland and well known to her neighbours.

Jamil’s show ‘Yadoon Ke Phool’, dealing with a wide range of personal issues and problems, earned her the nickname of ‘Aunty’, her colleagues said.

‘She presented an agony aunt show where people in the community would call up and tell her their problems. She was always the first person to get involved in charity work,’ station director Javaid Ullah said.

‘It is a terrible shock. She was such a jolly, lovely person. It’s like losing a family member. We feel we have lost one of our best presenters but it’s not just us, the entire community is in shock.’

Jamil wrote on the Awaz FM’s website: ‘When I joined the radio I wanted to do such a programme where I could reunite broken families. I set this as my main goal of my programme and managed to fulfill my dream.’

‘I reunited five people and this made me very happy.’
